Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa and the ninth most populous in the world, with a population of over 182 million. Over half of the population is under 30 years old, and the population is growing at a pace of about 2.7% annually.
Nigeria, which produces crude oil at a tenth-place global ranking, attained lower-middle income status in 2014. However, more than 2 million people have been displaced by fighting in the region’s northeast, and states like Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe now have 8.7 million people who need access to food. In Borno State, the insurgency’s focal point, there are three million of them.
